LEGO World Builder: Clash! Spotlight/Article (28/12/24)

Welcome to another #LWBSpotlight post! This week, we're taking a look at the freshly released third version of @lego_clash_world and exploring how redrafting can help you build a more solid World.

Clash! has gone through a number of incarnations throughout the history of #LegoWorldBuilder, each one more polished than the last. This is for one simple reason: the more familiar you get with the story you're telling, the better you're able to tell it. In some ways, this concept is right at the core of #LEGO itself: build and rebuild. A lot of fans end up finding small improvements for their favourite sets, whether it's adding knees to a #Ninjago mech, motorising a technic build, or fine tuning the shaping of a Speed Champions set, and we're able to work out these upgrades because we built the set to begin with and understand how it fits together.

Building a World is no different. By the time you've told the story from beginning to end, you're in a better position to tell the beginning again with the benefit of knowing everything that's to come-- and after you've retold the beginning, you likely have some ideas for taking the rest in a different direction, combining two supporting characters into just one, or changing the motivation of one of your leads.

Clash has done exactly this through its iterations, each one building on and better integrating concepts from their earlier counterparts. Between the original and most recent versions, for example, Lightfoot's super speed becomes a more central part of his character, feeding into his flaws as well as his strengths, and Wrecker has gone from returning to supervillainy after becoming an empty nester to coming out of retirement after finding out his son is a superhero: both of these changes serve to give the characters stronger arcs and more direct lines to the story.

Redrafting is a technique that can be used on more or less any story, and starts with one simple question: if I were to tell this story again, how would I tell it?

LEGO World Builder: Site Promo (18/08/2023)

Archie is currently taking the time to plan something - although we're not sure what exactly he's working on just yet! Last we saw, though, he was starting to gather some bricks...

Do you prefer to plan your Worlds and Contributions in detail first, or jump right in, get creating, and see what happens? Do you take the same approach outside of World Builder with creative tasks such as MOC building, writing, and artwork, or does your approach change depending on what you're working with? Sound off in the comments!

LEGO World Builder: Pride Month Content (22/7/22)

Pride flags are evolving symbols of inclusivity. Learn about the flags you’re likely to see at your local Pride events! Pause our reel, created and animated by @yop1172, once the flags fully form to find out more about everything from Gilbert Baker’s original rainbow flag design, which had two extra stripes, to the most recent, #intersex-inclusive Progress Pride flag!

All told there are nine flags here to see, but the LGBTQIA+ community routinely flies many more. Why not share your favorite piece of pride flag trivia in the comments?

LEGO World Builder: Contest Winner Announcement (26/5/2022)

Thanks to our amazing #LWBcommunity for taking us on a mech-fueled trip through the multiverse! We’re ready to announce the winners of our #LWBMechverse challenge, inspired by Marvel Studios’ #DoctorStrangeintheMultiverseofMadness.

Our two Grand Prize Winners are @itavix’s incredible #DoctorStrange mech and @brickliteracy’s punchy #AmericaChavez mech! We loved the special flairs added to each build, from the incredible Cloak of Levitation build on the Strange mech to America’s classic stars and stripes. The character on these #mechs really shines through!

Special shoutout to @greenarj28’s epic design for her #ScarletWitch mech as well. This build broke #LEGO’s established #Marvelmech style a little bit, but hey, Wanda doesn’t play by the rules either!

Winners, please check your DMs so we can arrange for your prizes to be sent out. Thanks to everyone for participating in this mini-challenge, and keep an eye out for more!

Lego World Builder: Creator Interview (21/12/2021)

Welcome to Cybercity, a high-tech metropolis where #mechs are a part of everyday life. Timo and his friends dream of seeing the world beyond the city walls, and the only things standing in their way are the city's Elders... and also the huge, terrifying monsters that stalk the land. Monsters World Explorers invites #LEGO fans to discover this World alongside Timo! We caught up with its creator, @thefrenchybricks, to talk mechs, #monsters, and more.

“I'm a big fan of shonen anime such as #OnePiece and #Naruto,” he explains, “and I love creating #mecha and monsters in LEGO, so I mixed these two passions to create the story of Monsters World Explorers.” This influence is perhaps most apparent in Timo, the spontaneous and intrepid protagonist, who feels like he stepped right out of a magazine like #ShonenJump.

As far as contributions to his World go, he calls particular attention to fellow #LWBArchitect liam_roberts' wheel mech, a stylish #MOC that fits right into Cybercity's most popular sport: mech racing, a pastime as dangerous as it is exciting and broadcast nightly from Cybercity Stadium.

When it comes to tools, Frenchybricks prefers to let his MOCs do the heavy lifting. “I only used my LEGO bricks and my phone [to take] pictures, and I reworked the images a little bit with #Photofiltre."

Cybercity and the world beyond the walls are begging to be explored-- but what else is out there? Perhaps you’ve built your own entrant for the Mech Race, or another #kaiju for Timo and his friends to encounter? Maybe you’ve some concept art for Cybercity stadium or the junkyard where Timo first discovers his mech?
